About Broadway Printers ...
Broadway Printers Ltd. was incorporated on November 11th,
1911, and has been in continuous operation ever since.
Founded by Friedrich Richard Blockberger, a master craftsman
who was trained and received his Journeyman papers in his home
country of Germany, Broadway became the second unionized printer
in British Columbia. During the early years Friedrich would leave the

company in the capable hands of his five sons as he would head off into the wilds of British Columbia looking for gold, returning only for the winter months when he would publish and print many mining related newspapers.

After Friedrichs death in May of 1929, his youngest son Bernard (Ben) Blockberger took over as President. Ben, who was a journeyman typesetter and a perfectionist when it came to the printed piece, could often be found in the printing plant instructing his employees as to the "Broadway Way" of doing things. Plain and simple, if it was not perfect it did not go out the door.

Under Ben's leadership, Broadway grew both in size and reputation. In 1945 Broadway Printers built and moved into the building at the corner of Quebec and 8th (the current day pressroom). Ben's philosophy was quite simple; treat the customer the way you would like to be treated and never ever accept "good enough".

In the mid 1950s Richard (Dick) Blockberger, Ben's son, joined the company and spearheaded the move from hot metal to lithography. Under Dick's leadership Broadway continued to grow and in 1977 Broadway moved into our current location.

Dick's son, Tom, joined the company in 1985 and took over as President after Dick's passing in 1996. Tom's focus has been to maintain Broadway's reputation, as the printer who cares about the craft of printing, while introducing today's latest technologies.
